Frequently asked questions about Personal eID
An increasing number of public services from the state, county and municipality are wholly or partly online. An electronic ID confirms that you are who you say you are, and is currently required to access these services.
Commfides is one of four Norwegian providers of eID, delivering a personal electronic ID with the highest level of security, including access to healthcare services.
Commfide’s Personal eID is stored on a USB stick that is inserted into your computer. When you log in to public services through the ID port, you will be asked for a login method. With Commfides’ solution, you only need to enter your PIN code to log in.
Technically, a Personal eID is a digital certificate, a data file containing personal information and a confirmation of your identity. The identification process, which includes checking your passport, is important because it is the basis for this confirmation.
Identity theft is a growing social problem. If fraudsters gain access to your digital identity, the worst-case scenario could be that your bank account is emptied or that sensitive personal data goes astray.
A Commfides Personal eID can be used to log in to all public services, but not to log in to the bank. This makes ID theft less attractive, and both your money and personal data are more secure. Commfides Personal eID can be used in the ID port, which provides access to over 1,500 public services.
Commfide’s eID makes it easy to log in to public services online via the ID port. Some of the most popular services are Altinn, Skatteetaten, NAV, Lånekassen, Mine presepter, Samordnet opptak, Legemiddelverket and a number of municipal portals.
You can use eID to submit your tax return, change your GP, apply for a kindergarten place, change your address or apply for a student loan. Commfides Private e-ID provides access to public services at all security levels. Private e-ID can also be used for digital signing.

Once you have received your e-ID, you need to install a plug-in on your PC that is required for the PC to be able to read your ID. The plug-in is called Trust1Connector and is free – you can easily download it by clicking on the link here.
Once Trust1Connector has been installed, go to the service you want to identify yourself on and select “Commfides” as your e-ID provider.
When the PC reads the e-ID, you will automatically be asked for a PIN code. Once you have entered the correct PIN code, you will be authenticated and logged in.
