SAN & Multi-domain certificates
Secure multiple domains in the same certificate
SAN SSL SERTIFIKAT
A SAN certificate secures multiple domain names in the same certificate, for example:
www.eksempel.com
www.eksempel.no
www.commfides.com
www.commfides.no
What is a SAN certificate for?
- To secure multiple sites on an IP address
Generally, multiple unique IP addresses are required to secure multiple sites with SSL on a server, but this can be solved with a SAN certificate. Microsoft IIS and Apache are examples of some servers that must use a SAN certificate to secure multiple sites. - To secure multiple sites with different basic domains in the same certificate
The difference between a SAN certificate and a Wildcard certificate is that Wildcard can protect all subdomains for a whole domain, such as * .example.com, but a SAN certificate can protect both www.example.com and www.example.no. There may be different owners of the domain in the same certificate. - Simpler SSL configuration
Using a SAN Certificate saves you time and energy when you do not have to configure an IP address for each certificate. - SAN certificate can be issued with Wildcard SAN fields
SAN certificates can now also be issued with Wildcard SAN fields, such as * .example.com and * commfides.no. Read more about how below. - SAN Certificate can be issued with EV validation
If you want to secure more domains with “green address fields” in the same certificate, there is also a solution for that. Read more about EV SAN SSL below.
Possibilities with SAN-certificates
UC SAN SSL
UC SAN SSL is one of the most widely used certificates.
UC SAN stands for Unified Communications Subject Alternative Names that provide a large selection when you want to secure multiple domains.
The certificate supports all popular applications in smart phones / PDAs and over 99.7% of all browsers.
Commfides UC SAN SSL is the ultimate choice for Microsoft Exchange.
UC SAN handles up to 200 domains in the same certificate and can be re-issued to add new domains names as needed.
UC SAN is issued within 1 day.
LYNC SAN SSL
Commfides LYNC SAN SSL certificate is a SAN-certificate and is customized to work in (or with) Microsoft Lync services.
LYNC SAN is issued within a day.
EV SAN SSL
If you need to secure multiple domains and want a green address bar, Commfides SAN EV SSL is the perfect choice.
The certificate is flexible because multiple domains can be added as soon as possible and issued quickly.
One major advantage is that the certificate is cost effective and has a lower cost per EV SAN field compared to buying one and one EV certificate.
Commfides EV SAN handles up to 100 domains in the same certificate.
EV SAN is issued within 1-3 days, depending on the number of domains and the company’s validation information.
UC SAN WILDCARD SSL
For businesses that host multiple sites with many subdomains, a SAN certificate with Wildcard feature is an excellent choice. It is especially suitable for systems that can not handle multiple SSL certificates on the same server.
For example, a SAN Wildcard solution can look like this:
Common Name: www.forhandler.com
SAN felt 1: *.kunde1.com
SAN felt 2: *.kunde2.com
SAN felt 3: *.kunde3.com
The certificate can also be combined with standard SAN fields (ie non-wildcard).
Common Name: www.forhandler.com
SAN felt 1: *.kunde1.com
SAN felt 2: mail.kunde2.com
SAN felt 3: *.kunde3.com
Certificate is isually issued within 1 day.
